How do I find a place to live off campus?

Start by checking out the Off Campus Housing website You will need to create a log-in to get started. From there you will be able to search property listings in the area that range from traditional style apartments to houses and condos. The site will also tell you how far each property is from campus.

Do you recommend any off campus properties?

Off Campus Student Services does not “recommend” any off campus properties. However, we are in contact with all of the property managers from the listings on the website and work with those individuals on a regular basis. Using the website is the best way to find a property where the staff is familiar with the needs of college students.

I am new to Coastal and don’t know anyone in the area, can you help me find a roommate?

Students can use the Roommate Finder section of the Off Campus Housing website to look for potential roommates. You'll need to create your own roommate profile first, and then you can search the other profiles and message roommates who might be a good fit. Another option is to search the Housing section for "a room in a unit" under More Filters. This will show you available listings where there are already people living there and they are looking for another person to join them. This could be a group of students or a private landlord renting a bedroom in their home.

How do I pay for off campus housing?

Students who receive more financial aid than needed to cover direct expenses (ie. tuition and fees) may use their excess financial aid to pay or assist in paying for off campus housing and other educationally related expenses. You may view your CCU direct charges via WebAdvisor. If you signed up for Direct Deposit, the excess funds will be deposited directly into your bank account once the refund process has concluded. If you do not have Direct Deposit, then your excess funds will be mailed to your permanent address as listed with the Registrar in the form of a University check.
Please note that most students find it necessary to make initial apartment deposits and/or monthly rent payments from personal funds until the refund process is complete. Keep in mind that settlement checks are only issued when all financial aid funds have arrived to Coastal and a credit balance is produced.

Is there a shuttle from any off campus housing to campus?

There is not currently a shuttle to carry students from off campus housing to campus. However, there are a number of housing options within walking distance. Also once students arrive on campus in the morning we do recommend using the shuttle as one means of getting from class to class. Using the on campus shuttles is more efficient than driving between buildings and will help save gas.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Yes, Off Campus Student Services encourages all students living off campus to obtain renter’s insurance. This insurance is available at a low cost (typically $10-$20 per month) and will help protect you in the event of a theft, fire, or other damage to your belongings. You may be able to get this insurance through the same company your parent or guardian uses for their home owner’s insurance or through one of the many reputable companies in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area.
